“Alexander Technique lessons have now been recognised by the Advertising Standards Association (ASA) and the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) as a method that can benefit those with chronic neck pain…….
CAP’s decision to allow this claim is based on a report they commissioned from an independent expert (a Professor of Primary Care Epidemiology), and this is what he mentioned in his report about the evidence we submitted:
I have read the [ATLAS] paper in detail and have considered it critically as a contribution to evidence about the management of patients with chronic neck pain. My overall view, having done this, is that this was an impeccably conducted and analysed randomised controlled trial, clearly presented. It really does represent as good as it gets in terms of the quality of the clinical science that has been carried out.
[ATLAS] is an impressive trial which can support claims about the benefits of Alexander technique. Although only based on this single trial, I am strongly in favour of rating such a trial as good evidence despite clinical science demanding replication and reproduction of such results. The consistency with the earlier (and also very well-conducted) back pain trial provides further justification for this. ”

I am pleased to say I have recently been teaching Maria who could barely turn her head because of neck pain and referred headaches. Guess what? She can turn her head much further, it rarely pains here, the neck muscles have softened and headaches gone – after only 8 lessons.
